Well hello there friends. The creative juices have been flowing! I’m working on a ‘college blanket’ for our oldest who is getting ready to apply for colleges – is this really happening? I have a friends trip coming up next week to Santa Fe, New Mexico. It’s a destination I’ve never been to before but have always wanted to visit. It is known to be a quaint, artistic town. I am counting on coming back rejuvenated and inspired with ideas. In the meanwhile, here’s what I’ve Currently been up to…
Fall means yarn! Isn’t this one yummy?
Is making a ‘college blanket’ a thing? My hubby Bob says no – well I’m making one anyhow. I follow a creative blogger, Jessica, author of Mama in a Stitch where she shares her knitting and crochet patterns. I like following people I can relate to and I feel like if I knew Jessica in person I would love her – she is a fellow animal lover, teacher, and crafter living in Colorado. A couple weeks ago Jessica shared a post on how to crochet the blanket stitch. I loved the way it looked and made several attempts to find the color and texture we liked. We decided to go with a soft, cream colored chunky yarn by Loops and Threads, Charisma. I’m keeping track of how many skeins of yarn it takes to make a full blanket – I think too many. This will be my first full sized blanket. This has been a fun project so far. It actually keeps Buddy and I warm while I’m working on it.
Time will tell whether our oldest, Ley, will use the blanket when she’s off to school in the fall. She will more than likely stay in California for college and she might very well be in southern California. Sooooo, the whole concept of a blanket is a bit silly. It’s more for me than for her if I’m being honest with myself. It’s helping me process her living someplace else in the not so distant future…sniff, sniff.
Look at this handsome guy!
Have I shared that I’m now coaching adults as well as kids and teens for Kurbo Health? This fall marks my 3rd year with Kurbo and I still love my job. Working with adults has added a new dimension and has also filled a need to spend some more time with adults. Let me tell you about Heather. From the first time I spoke with her I couldn’t get over how much we had in common. We both have 2 small dogs and each of us have one that’s a stinker. We also both have two cats. Our furry children yield endless conversations. I just learned that Heather also loves crafting and is an artist. This little Frenchie is my favorite – look at his expressive eyes! I look forward to our calls and I’m grateful for the connection we’ve made.
Enjoying my Coffees
Anytime is a good time for a strong cup of coffee in my book.
This Friday is national coffee day. Now this is a national holiday I can really get into. My cup of Joe is easily one of the best parts of my morning. I currently use an Aeropress. I got turned onto it after listening to a podcast a couple years ago and haven’t looked back. You can get the whole Aeropress coffee system for under $30 and it makes some dang good, strong espresso. I do love the Nespresso espresso systems and I may just break down and get a simple version one day soon. I already have a nice milk frother so I could get away with a capsule. I’m looking at the Inissia. If you have a Nespresso system and are loving it, let me know. I also treat myself to a cafe coffee almost everyday…ahhh, it’s the little things in life that bring big pleasure.
I’m about to start not one, but two new books.
I’m not normally one to read two books at the same time. We had such a hard time picking a book after our recent book club meeting! We finally decided on “Behold the Dreamers,” by Imbolo Mbue. The books are going to be radically different stories about immigrants – Dreamers being serious and heart wrenching I’m expecting, while Crazy Rich Asians has promises of being hilarious. I think I will like juggling back and forth between these two books depending on my mood.
Traveling with Friends
I’m so excited to be jet-setting off to spend 4 days with my besties from high school (Michigan) plus one – a very dear one – my sis’ in law, Stacy, who is joining us this year. About 10 years ago, just before we all turned 40, my close group from high school and I re-ignited our friendships by spending QT together. It started around reunion times and evolved into annual trips we’ve been doing for about 10 years now. We’ve been to NY, San Diego, Napa and of course Michigan together. This time we are meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I’m looking forward most to spend time with my close friends and I’m also looking forward to the food! From what I hear expect to be seeing some recipe inspiration involving green chilis and margaritas darlin’s.
Hope you are feeling fabulous –
