Easy Mulled Wine
Merry Christmas Eve! I hope this email finds you with family and friends feeling loved and grateful. I was sick, sick, sick last week. Although there are many worse things than having the flu I am ever so happy to be finally over it! I may have had a little too much fun in December ;). Nevertheless I am back in action and loving this simple mulled wine! What are your holiday favorite drinks? For years I did a mulled cider at my annual cookie party and it may have been spiked with a little rum ;). There was no cookie party to be had this year, …hence, no mulled cider. I came across this recipe on Ali’s Gimme Some Oven and knew I had to try it.
If you follow Ali’s recipe your home will smell amazing and you will have enough cider for I’d say 3 or 4 drinks. I decided to half the recipe since my Bob is allergic to red wine. So my recipe here is for a personalized, cold buster type mulled wine express. No home blended spices – store bought all the way! I’m going for super simple. I used to get my mulled spices from Williams Sonoma for my ciders in years past. This year I grabbed some from the check out line at Draeger’s…just the kind of holiday I’ve been having – grab and go. You can find it in just about any market and they even have it in little tea bag form.
Here are a couple of important tips:
If you are looking for a real drinkie-poo, do your best to avoid getting the wine to the boiling point. If you doooo accidentally boil some of the alcohol will burn off….not exactly the end of the world unless the holidays have got you super stressed. If you are more about the comfort and flavor of this drink, boil away.
The brandy is optional but I do recommend looking for a flavored brandy like orange or apple. I squeeze in a little of the oranges for added zing.
May your next few days be filled with love and blessings. Until the next post,
