Fashion Finds Spring Dresses
Welcome to the first ever OvenHug ‘fashion finds’ post! Today I’m sharing my spring dresses ‘finds’ including brights and whites as well as one floral number. Most of the time you’ll find me dressed in comfy, workout/dance/running gear. When the sun comes out I get in the mood to dress up a little. Some of this spring excitement has to do with our family’s culture with the Persian New Year (Norouz in Farsi).
Persian New Year (“Norouz” – means “new day” in Farsi) falls on the first day of spring. To be super exact it will happen at 3:38am PST on Monday, March 20th this year. Norouz is a non-religious, Pagan holiday dating back more than 3,000 years! One of the customs is to clean out the house – spring cleaning originated from Norouz. It is also customary to buy new clothes! Most days of the year I preach “less is more”. In the spring, however, I can shop in the name of custom and culture!
I ordered this pretty blue floral dress from Dress barn online and couldn’t be happier with it. I love how the shoulder detail is a bit different on each side. The deep pockets are awesome. This dress is tailored and could be worn for any special spring occasion and is a bargain at $52.00. I might even wear this one to our extended family gathering next weekend for Norouz. Flowers put me in a good mood ?.
Our girls both have special occasions coming up this spring. Leyla is going to prom and Ava has her 8th grade graduation. They both chose cute white dresses for their parties. I love white in the spring. White works on any complexion and will be especially flattering with their dark hair.
Times sure have changed with shopping for special occasions as teens! The high school has a FB page where girls post their dresses to try and avoid duplicate dresses at the prom. I have to say I don’t love this new strategy. Social media puts more pressure on the girls to find a ‘perfect’ dress, ugh. Is it just me or is it not such a big deal to be wearing the same thing as someone else? Suffice it to say that times have changed since the 80’s! Here are the two dresses our girls ended up with for their special nights this spring:
Both my gals have versions of this beige wedge shoe which they wear to every formal school event. They are a bit high but it’s good high heel walking practice. The neutral color makes these shoes versatile – they go with every outfit. I love the cute little lace detail on this year’s version of the wedge heels. I’d borrow them except for two things – both girls have much bigger feet than I do and I can hardly walk in heels!
Here is what spring clean out looks like in our house. The pile starts in the living room. We replaced the some drapes after many years so the old curtains are in the pile. The rest is mainly clothes. Everyone has to add to the pile – Bob and the girls and all. The pile then goes into my trunk, to donations, and the ThredUp bag goes to the post office. That’s it. Make room for the new!

Lastly, if you don’t know where to start with shopping, try Stitch Fix. It’s an online shopping experience like no other. You answer some questions about your style, price range and size. You get a personal stylist (well it’s algorithm but still fun). Youtuber and fashionista Shaylee Glaziner does a great job explaining how to use Stitch Fix in this video.
